Lucas Says He Will Move on Farm Bill…
House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) said Thurs., April 18, that he will move ahead a farm bill markup May 15 despite pressure from the Republican leadership to take more time first and consider tougher changes in the food stamp program to win over conservative votes. Lucas told POLITICO that he was fully prepared to hold listening sessions first with the Republican whip’s office over the next month. But he wants to keep to his schedule and produce a bipartisan bill together with his ranking Democrat, Minnesota Rep. Collin Peterson. Click here for more.

Meat Study Generating Media Buzz…
The National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System recently published its Retail Meat Annual Report, 2011. Activist groups including the Environmental Working Group claim the report reveals “shocking rates of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in U.S. supermarket meats.” The U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance and International Food Information Council have criticized EWG’s assertions, noting that a limited sample size was used for the study.
