Hi this is Nebraska
Farm Bureau's Ag News Now Radio Service, I’m Tina Henderson.

Now here is a
suggested lead-in to our focus program.

USDA
recently announced a 4.5-million bushel sale of U.S. corn to China. Nebraska Farm
Bureau’s Tina Henderson tells us more in the following report.

The
report runs 3:14.

Now for our report,
on the count in 3...2...1...

U.S.
Grains Council Chairman Rick Fruth says there is a sign that demand for Corn in
China is beginning to outpace the agricultural output - something the Grains
Council has long anticipated.

And
thanks to the market development efforts of the Grains Council - Fruth says the
U.S. is well positioned to take advantage of that. The Ohio corn farmer says
that could pay big dividends for America’s corn growers.

Cut
#2      :31    O.C...”in that statement.”

Fruth
says the hope is that the trade relationship with China can mimic the
successful, longstanding relationships the U.S. shares with other parts of the
world like Japan. He says it’s important to the global food security effort
recently discussed at a Grains Council-sponsored symposium in Japan. The Global
Food Security Symposium - among other things - celebrated the 50 year
U.S.-Japan trade relationship. It also - according to Fruth - explored an
interesting question. Is food security best achieved through self-sufficiency
or through the development of marketing channels?

Cut
#3      :43      O.C...”they are needed.”

Fruth
says that’s an important message when it comes to moving the relationship
between China and the U.S. forward. He says it’s a path of discussion that gets
their attention - and a message they are receptive to.
