- Percentage of Agricultural Land by County
The Nebraska Department of Revenue, Property Assessment Division, announced on Friday real property value changes from 2010 to 2011. Overall, real property valuations increased 4.88% from 2010 to 2011. Agricultural land values, for the third year in a row, posted double-digit increases rising just over 11% from last year. Agricultural land values had increased around 12% the two years prior. Agricultural land values in Sarpy County led the way with a nearly 33% increase from last year. Agricultural land values in Buffalo, Box Butte, Cass, Douglas, Fillmore, Hamilton, Kearney, Lancaster, Loup, Otoe, Phelps, Saunders, Washington and York on average posted gains of greater than 20% over last year. At the same time, land values in Arthur, Cherry, Dawes, McPherson, Richardson, and Thomas on average declined compared to 2010. An analysis of the percent of value in counties attributable to agricultural land in 2010 was recently conducted by Alissa Doerr, a student intern for the Farm Bureau Governmental Relations department. The analysis found that in 66 Nebraska counties, agricultural land accounted for over 50% of the property tax valuation base.
