Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet
The Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation Discussion Meet competitive event is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Participants build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems. Successful participants are productive thinkers rather than emotional persuaders and assist the group in creating ways to implement the solutions discussed and highlight Farm Bureau’s involvement in those actions/steps.
Nebraska Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers 2014 Discussion Meet
winner will receive $500, an iPad and an all expenses paid trip to the
AFBF Annual Meeting to compete at the national competition.
To help competitors prepare for state and national Discussion Meets, AFBF will be hosting a series of conference calls again this fall. Each call will last an hour and include an industry expert on one of the five questions that will be used in the 2015 YF&R Discussion Meet in San Diego and the 2015 YF&R Collegiate Discussion Meet in Nashville. The first training call will cover the overall competition and preparation tips. There will be ample time for questions and answers during each call. For your reference the Discussion Meet questions are attached.
