State of Nebraska Agriculture
In many ways 2021 will go down as an extraordinary year for Nebraska farmers and ranchers. The ongoing pandemic, rolling blackouts, surging exports, increasing input costs, creeping drought, a December derecho, and supply chain bottlenecks made for an odd year. Yet despite the oddities, Nebraska producers emerged from last year stronger financially compared to a year ago. An informal survey of Tidbits readers found 65 percent of respondents said their financial condition was better compared to December 2020, 32 percent said they were about the same, and 3 percent indicated they were worse off. This week’s Tidbits will take stock of the farm financial conditions beginning 2022. Tidbits next week will look towards what 2022 might bring.
