Nebraska Farm Bureau pleased with Right to Repair Memorandum with John Deere

Nebraska Farm Bureau (NEFB) is very pleased with the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and John Deere that will ensure farmers’ and ranchers’ right to repair their tractors and other implements. The landmark MOU is the culmination of several years of discussions with John Deere and a major step forward on Farm Bureau policy that was brought forward by Nebraska Farm Bureau.

In this week’s Policy Watch, the new Congress convenes, Rep. Jason Smith wins the highly coveted House Ways and Means Committee chairmanship, beating out Reps. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) and Adrian Smith (R-Neb.), and state lawmakers finalize legislative committees and introduce more than 350 bills and so far, this legislative session.

NEFB Delegates Set National Policy

The American Farm Bureau (AFBF) Annual Convention wrapped up this week where Nebraska farmer and rancher delegates adopted policy that will provide direction to the organization from its grassroots members in 2023. Key issues included protecting farm and ranch families from Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) regulations, strengthening risk management programs, and ensuring access to valuable crop protection tools. Congratulations to Adam and Kaylyn Venteicher of Pierce who represented Nebraska in the Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) Achievement in Agriculture award, Clay Patton who represented Nebraska in the Discussion Meet competition and made it to the Sweet 16, and Preston Parmley of TreadSure, a semifinalist in the Farm Bureau Ag Innovation Challenge.

Former Gov. Pete Ricketts to Fill Nebraska’s Vacant U.S. Senate Seat

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen appointed former Gov. Pete Ricketts to the U.S. Senate. Ricketts will replace former Senator Ben Sasse, who officially resigned from the Senate to become the next president of the University of Florida. Ricketts will be sworn in when the Senate reconvenes Jan. 23. Nebraska Farm Bureau applauded the announcement.
