What Will 2022 Hold?

Agriculture emerged from 2021 financially strong. The financial picture in 2022, though, looks more daunting and clouded with uncertainty. Compared to 2021, positive returns for producers will be more difficult to achieve. Respondents to an informal Tidbits survey in December identified rising input costs, drought, crop and livestock prices, and black swans as their top concerns coming into the year (Figure 1). This week, Tidbits will examine these and other factors which will shape agriculture in 2022.
