Statement by Mark McHargue, President, Regarding the Naming of Dr. Jeffrey Gold as the NU President Priority Candidate

LINCOLN, NEB. – “We offer our congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Gold on his designation as the priority candidate to be the next president of the University of Nebraska system. Given that agriculture is the economic driver of our state, accounting for one out of every four Nebraska jobs and the fact that Nebraska’s agriculture complex is the third largest in the country, it is imperative the person who holds the top leadership position of our land grant institution is fully vested to push Nebraska to be ‘the’ premier agriculture research and extension institution. University leadership must be committed to advancing Nebraska’s position as a global leader in food, fuel, and fiber production and we look forward to engaging with Dr. Gold to ensure agriculture is prominently and appropriately positioned as the foundational piece of our land grant university system.”

The Nebraska Farm Bureau is a grassroots, state-wide organization dedicated to supporting farm and ranch families and working for the benefit of all Nebraskans through a wide variety of educational, service, and advocacy efforts. More than 55,000 families across Nebraska are Farm Bureau members, working together to achieve rural and urban prosperity as agriculture is a key fuel to Nebraska’s economy.
