Leadership Academy in Action

The Nebraska Farm Bureau Leadership Academy, which comprises of 10 farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness professionals from across the state, met in Lincoln this week. This session focused on ways to influence decisions that will affect the agricultural industry.

The cadets kicked off the session by learning different ways to communicate on behalf of their County Farm Bureaus and their communities, including how to connect with local media outlets and how to use social media to amplify their message. Cadets also participated in mock hearings at the Capitol where they learned the process of how to testify on a legislative bill. Cadets wrote and delivered their own testimony on bills currently being heard in the Legislature.

The second day of the session brought an opportunity for the Leadership Academy cadets to put their new skills to use. Cadets met with state senators at the Capitol and advocated for agricultural issues that are affecting them on their farms and ranches. The Leadership Academy closed out this session by meeting with Richard Baier, president and CEO of the Nebraska Bankers Association.

The Leadership Academy will meet again in April.
