State Aid for Rural Schools Bill on the Move
The Revenue Committee has voted to advance a bill to provide state aid to K-12 schools that rely heavily on property taxes for funding. Introduced by Sen. Curt Friesen of Henderson, LB 454 would enact “stabilization” aid for schools that do not currently receive state equalization aid subsequently putting pressure on property taxes to provide the bulk of funding. LB 454 is one of Nebraska Farm Bureau’s priority initiatives for the session related to property tax relief. Full details of the Committee amended version of the bill are expected to be available next week.
