The USDA Economic Research Service reports there were 2,727 farms growing wheat in Nebraska in 2022, down 25 percent from 2017 . . . According to Jackson Stansell of Sentinel Fertigation, Nebraska has the most fertigated acres (fertilizer applied through center pivot irrigation system) in the United States at 1.6 million acres, roughly 20 percent of the groundwater irrigated acres in the state . . . The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service says Nebraska egg production during February totaled 192 million eggs, or 23.1 eggs per hen on average . . . Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.56 million cattle on feed on March 1, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, up 1 percent from last year.
