Derrel Peel, livestock economist with Oklahoma State University, expects the nation’s beef cow herd to be smaller on January 1 when the next USDA inventory is conducted. Peel also sees limited prospects for herd growth next year . . . The USDA announced producers and landowners can sign up for the Grassland Conservation Reserve Program through June 28 . . . Karen Braun reported U.S. ethanol exports in April were 214 million gallons, the second-highest for any month on record, and up 51% from the previous 3-year average for April . . . The Daily Livestock Report reported U.S. exports of pork in April were up 14% in terms of tonnage while exports of beef were down 3%.
