Farm Bankruptcies

According to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, 7 farm bankruptcies were filed in Nebraska in the first half of 2021 compared to 16 filed last year during the same period. In total, 34 farm bankruptcies were filed in 2020, 4 fewer than that filed in 2019 (Figure 2).

Thus, farm bankruptcies are trending down after four years of increases due to higher commodity prices and improved farm and ranch financial conditions. If the trend continues, farm bankruptcies could end the year below the average of 20 filings per year since 2000. Solid evidence that farm and ranch financial conditions have improved over the past year.
