Harvest Ahead of Schedule

Despite some rain delays, Nebraska’s farmers are making steady progress with corn harvest. According to the Oct. 25 USDA Crop Progress Report, Nebraska corn harvest is 60 percent complete, behind 73 percent at this time last year, but ahead of the 47 percent five-year average. Soybean harvest is nearing completion in Nebraska with 88 percent of soybean acres harvested, ahead of the 77 percent average.

Summer Intern Application Closes Nov. 5

Do you know a student that wants to gain experience in education programs, leadership, and public relations? Have them apply for the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation summer internship! This paid intern will assist the Foundation’s education team by delivering agricultural literacy programming at summer camps, museums, and fairs, and aid in the recruitment of Ag Pen Pals.

Young, Beginning, and Small Farmer Symposium

Through a series of fast-paced panel discussions, participants to the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources Young, Beginning, and Small Farmer Symposium will co-create innovative solutions in the following areas: challenges facing young, beginning and small farming operations, existing programs for financing young, beginning and small farmers; innovative resource approaches for the farm of the future, and more. Adams County farmer and Nebraska Farm Bureau Board member Lance Atwater will serve as a panelist talking about aspirations vs. realities. Deadline to register is Nov. 1

REMINDER: Policy Resolutions Dues Nov. 5

County Farm Bureau leaders have until Nov. 5 to submit their county’s policy resolutions for consideration as part of the Nebraska Farm Bureau policy development process. Resolutions should be submitted to Whittney Kelley at whittneyk@nefb.org. Resolutions submitted will be included for consideration by members of the NEFB State Legislative Policy Committee at the upcoming Policy Forum to be held Nov. 18
