Poultry Economics
The poultry processing facility in Fremont and poultry barns in surrounding areas have put the Nebraska poultry industry on the map. Now an economic impact study sponsored by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association shows Nebraska’s growing poultry sector contributes positively to the state’s economy. The study, conducted by John Dunham & Associates, indicates the poultry and egg industry in Nebraska employs 8,486 people, with an average salary of $68,700 plus benefits, and generates an additional 28,447 jobs in supplier and ancillary industries. In all, the poultry and egg sector is responsible for $12.86 billion in total economic activity supporting 36,933 jobs. Numbers worth “clucking” or “crowing” about.
