The 2019 Discussion Meet will begin with the YF&R conference in January. For the chance to compete nationally, members first have to compete at YF&R conference and earn a spot in the final four. The final four will then compete at the 2019 NEFB Annual Meeting with the winner going on to compete at the American Farm Bureau Discussion Meet.

The Discussion Meet competition simulates a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Participants build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems. Members who typically do well in this competition are up to date on current Farm Bureau policy and issues and are able to clearly articulate their points and bring the group to a consensus.

Participants will also receive $10 off their registration for competing in the Discussion Meet at the YF&R Conference.
