Kate Likens of Saline County Farm Bureau is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln working towards a degree in Agriculture Education. In addition to being an agriculture teacher, her goal is to be an entrepreneur. She wants to make a positive impact on a rural community by owning a business that will not only fulfill a community need but also bring jobs to the local community.

Kate LikensShe first learned about the Nebraska Farm Bureau student membership program at State FFA Convention her senior year of high school. As a freshmen in college, she decided to join the UNL Collegiate Farm Bureau and then became a student member. As a young adult in the agriculture industry, she is looking forward most to being able to take her passion and turn it into a career. She can't wait to be an agriculture educator and make a difference not only in the agriculture industry but the lives of students.

While Likens didn’t grow up on a farm, she was very active in both 4-H and FFA where she showed hogs at the fair, held offices in both organizations and had a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) in the area of Small Animal Care and Production. She found her passion for agriculture and educating others about agriculture when she attended the Nebraska Agriculture Youth Institute (NAYI).

“There are so many exciting things happening in the agriculture industry”, said Likens.
