American Farm Bureau economist Bernt Nelson said there were zero reports of Highly Pathogenic Aviation Influenza (HPAI) in commercial poultry flocks in August . . . Prices for choice beef cutout at the end of August was 34% higher than a year ago according to the Daily Livestock Report with prices across every primal up by more than 30% except the plate primal . . . The Daily Livestock Report also noted that for the week ending August 22 sales of 400-500 lb. steer calves were recorded at $508.25 per cwt. in Nebraska, at $473.96 for 500-600 lb. calves, and at $395.46 for 700-800 lb. calves, well over prices recorded a year ago . . . The Wall Street Journal reported farmers harvested 2% fewer corn acres in 2024 than they did in 1924 but produced 729% more corn . . . Agricultural equipment manufacturer Claas held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 44,800 square-foot research and development facility in Omaha. The company will use the facility to test combines and other equipment.
