Panhandle County Farm Bureaus Host Western Issues Meeting

County Farm Bureaus located in the Nebraska panhandle held a western issues meeting and hosted members of the Nebraska Farm Bureau (NEFB) Public Policy Team on the evening of April 23. Nebraska's agricultural diversity from west to east leads to significantly different policy needs and concerns, and NEFB staff is always seeking opportunities to directly discuss policy issues with members. The top discussion topic was on the ongoing drought and wildfire recovery. Surface water irrigators in the panhandle are all bracing for highly limited water availability, which could also have an impact on groundwater irrigators as well. Recovery from the wildfires was also a significant part of the evening's discussion with reminders about the Nebraska Farm Bureau Disaster Relief Fund and potential property tax re-evaluations all being discussed. Federal disaster programs, USDA office staffing, Nebraska's brand law, and property taxes were also discussed.
