Persistent Drought

Drought is an ever-present threat in Nebraska. Compared to a year ago, conditions are much improved. Much of the state is abnormally dry entering the year, and 40% of the state is under some form of drought, but just 1.6% of the state is under severe, extreme, or exceptional drought conditions. Last year 95% of the state was under some form of drought and 46% suffered severe conditions or worse. The growing season is still four months away, but drought conditions bear watching.
