A Season of Gratitude and Hope: A Message from Nebraska Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue

In early Dec., Judi and I were reminded of the tremendous blessing we have in friends, neighbors, and our Farm Bureau family. As many of you know, I was hospitalized for a few days with double pneumonia, and I wantto sincerely thank everyone who reached out with prayers and concern. It has meant more than you know. The power of prayer is alive and well, and your support has truly lifted us up.

I’m also very grateful for the excellent care I received in Central City at the new hospital. I am home, resting and recovering and we are thankful and optimistic.

But enough about me. The real story is the incredible work each of you continues to do on behalf of Nebraska Farm Bureau and Nebraska agriculture. You truly are the rock stars. While I continue recovering, I want to express my appreciation for the leadership shown by our First Vice President Katie Olson and our Second Vice President Lance Atwater during our Annual Meeting. Their passion and dedication to the process we follow on the delegate floor demonstrates exactly what makes Farm Bureau unique.

The work done during delegate sessions is more than procedure, it is the foundation of who we are as an organization. Farm Bureau policy doesn’t come from a boardroom or a distant office; it comes directly from our members, our counties, and our grassroots involvement in communities. When members debate policy, bring real-world concerns forward, and shape our positions from the ground up, we ensure Nebraska agriculture has a strong, authentic voice at the state and national level. That is the true strength of this organization.

As we approach Christmas, I am reminded that this season is about gratitude, hope, and the blessings that come through faith, family, and community. In agriculture, and in rural life, we understand that every season brings challenges, but also purpose. This year has been no exception. Yet through it all, Nebraska farmers and ranchers continue to show resilience, generosity, and courage.

My Christmas wish for each of you is time with family, renewed strength, and the joy that comes from knowing that what we do matters, not just on the farm or ranch, but in the lives, we touch along the way. May the peace and promise of Christ fill your homes and hearts in the year ahead.

We pray your Christmas was filled with comfort and peace, and we hope the new year brings good health and a fruitful season ahead.
