Francisco Scott and Ty Kreitman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve reported farmland values in the Midwest and Plains States regions were mixed in the fourth quarter of last year compared to the previous year. Some states saw increases and others, like Nebraska, experienced moderate declines. Nebraska’s reported decline in non-irrigated cropland value, off 2%, similar to that reported by the Center for Agricultural Profitability. South Dakota, the Mountain States, and Western Missouri joined Nebraska in seeing values decline. South Dakota saw the largest decline at 4%. Northern Indiana and Iowa, up 9% and 7% respectively, saw the greatest increases. Scott and Kreitman concluded the “resilient land valuations and distribution of ad hoc government assistance have supported the sectors and financial stress remained limited through the end of 2025.”
